box by G. Rowney was made from 1862 to 1881-

were only at 29 Oxford St. Address between these dates.

- The Victorian
label is particularly colorful as they also made lithograph prints.
- Their watercolour
boxes are quite popular for that reason

- the
top tray is filled with 14 blocks of all Rowney Paint of the
era.

- the
several more blocks stored in the drawer below of various other
makes from the late 1800's .
- Many
of the antique paint blocks are nearly whole while others are
used- and are various sizes.In addition there partial piece a
Chinese ink stick in a glass mixing bowl on the left side of
the box.

- The
rectangular palette fits the box perfectly and is a Rowney Pallet
of the time. - See below

- It
has some crazing and a few small chips but in good overall condition.

- This fine antique watercolor
box by G. Rowney was made from 1862 1881-
- because
they were only at 29 Oxford St. Address between these dates.
- There are two round porcelain
palettes in the bottom drawer , one with the Rowney name on the
back.
- In
the top there is a water glass,these probably being later additions.
- In addition there are:

- The Brass
Key that works the lock.
- The original
pin that holds the bottom drawer closed.
- There are
two brushes probably newer than the box
- There is
a nib and a few pieces of conte' crayon.
- On the bottom
the previous owner has written "Leslie Russell"

- This is a
wonderful Victorian Paint kit with two trays the paint and the
pallet that lift out to reveal storage space for pencils and
supplies.

- The bottom
drawer opens to reveal several items and is a good place to store
small sketch paper.
- The whole
outer box is made of solid Mahogany- the inside is fitted with
boxwood.

- There are
some ink stains on the top of the box and a few paint stains
here and there inside; all lending authentic character to this
over 132 year old antique.

- A beautiful
Trade card in the top of the box is one of the most colorful
of any of the time

- It measures
9 1/2 inch wide x 7 1/4 Deep x 3 7/8 high.

- This box
has patina from use, some scratches, nicks
- The palettes
have crazing and a few nicks but still in good shape.
- Some paint
blocks are nearly whole, a few partial blocks etc. they show
patina of age, cracks and there The protective ebony banding
on the top edge of the box is all there but has some cracks.

- There are
paint stains here and there. All serve to give it authentic patina
for a majestic box lovingly used by the artist.
